First Post From A Messy Mommy

The Mental Load · 4 min read

There’s something sweet about a first blog post.

It’s quiet. It’s mine. And honestly, it’s probably everything that quite frankly has not been my reality since becoming a mom.

So — hi. It’s really nice to meet you.

If you found your way here, I hope you stay awhile. I hope I do you justice and don’t waste your time. Because I want to be upfront about what this place is and what it isn’t.

This is not a space of expertly curated advice on how to be the perfect mom, wife, or friend. It is not a place that will judge the decisions you’ve made — to work or not to work, to stay home or not to stay home. Those decisions are yours, they make sense for your life, and you will not find a raised eyebrow here.

What you will find, about 90% of the time, is just a relatable voice in the room. Think of me as a first cousin who shows up uninvited, tells you unsolicited stories of failure, and occasionally vents about something ridiculous. You know the one. That’s me.

Three boys. Two human, one doodle.

I’m a Bay Area mom, and in the last five years my life has done something that I did not fully anticipate: it completely reorganized itself around other people.

I went from the pure, unapologetic luxury of being 100% selfish — doing what I wanted, when I wanted, without explanation — to a place where the daily mindset is simply: survive, show up, do my best, and hope it’s enough to set these kids up right.

Every time I meet another mom and hear about her one, two, or three kids alongside everything else on her plate — the job, the volunteering, the travel, the marriage, the aging parents, the side project she hasn’t given up on — I genuinely do not know how we do it. I just know that we do. We step up to the plate, we find the energy from somewhere, and we take the next step. Every single day.

Why this blog exists.

I decided to start writing after an exceptionally hard year.

The details of that year aren’t what matter. What matters is the lesson it left me with: in this imperfect, unfair, beautiful, chaotic world, we have to find the small pockets of joy. We have to look for them, protect them, celebrate them — even when they’re hiding inside an ordinary Tuesday.

That’s what this blog is. A challenge to myself, and maybe to you too, to figure out how to carve out your happy. However messy it looks. However imperfect the path.

I hope a few stories about my chaotic boys and one very dramatic goldendoodle help along the way.

What we’re doing here.

On this blog, you are allowed to take a breath. You are allowed to put the bag down for a minute.

We’ll unpack the mental load together — say it out loud so it gets a little quieter. We’ll cherish the crumbs, because food in all its forms is one of the most honest expressions of love. We’ll celebrate what’s in the bag and gush over the tiny luxuries that make mom life actually work. And we’ll find joy wherever we can — for me, that joy is rooted right here in the Bay Area, California.

And my moonshot? My PS at the bottom of this whole thing?

One day, maybe we won’t be asked to juggle it all.

Until then — I’ll see you here.
